Office of the Registrar
The main purpose of the Office of the Registrar is to develop, implement and maintain the Institutional Statute, Institutional Rules and other institutional governance policies, rules and structures in order to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation and generally accepted governance practices. As the Registrar, my office is the custodian of General Records in order to ensure compliance with legislation such as the Promotion of Access to Information Act, the Legal Deposit Act, the Electronic Communication and Transaction Act, the Companies Act, etc.
One of our key functions is to manage the academic administration of students to ensure a quality service to all stakeholders and the integrity of student data. We provide certain determined legal services to the University to ensure, amongst others, the protection of the legal interest of the Institution, compliance with the Student Disciplinary Code, as well as general legal requirements. We provide a secretariat service to the statutory and governance structures/committees of Nelson Mandela University. In addition, the Office of the Registrar includes Institutional Risk Advisory and the Ethics Office.
